PRIVACY
The short version: our web apps do their work in your browser, MCP forgets every call once it has answered, and GATO’s chat lives in memory and is gone within a day. Our server keeps ordinary web logs for two weeks, and any email you send us. No accounts, no cookies, no analytics, no ads. Nothing is sold.
WHO WE ARE
noirapps.io and its tools — MELTER, BITOW, DOPPLER, MCP and GATO — are run by Noir. For anything on this page, write to nobody@noirapps.io.
WHAT OUR SERVER RECORDS
Every visit is an ordinary web request, and our web server logs each one:
- your IP address, and the time;
- the page or file you asked for, and our response;
- the page that linked you here, if your browser says;
- your browser’s user-agent string.
We use these logs to keep the site running and to spot abuse. They are deleted after two weeks.
Addresses that probe for files no visitor asks for — configuration, passwords, admin pages — or that keep failing to log in to the server are blocked automatically, for up to a week. The record of those blocks is deleted after two weeks.
Mail you send to nobody@noirapps.io is stored on our server until we delete it, and is used only to read and answer it. The mail server also notes each delivery — the sending address, the server it came from and the time — in the server’s system log, which is deleted after 30 days.
WHAT STAYS IN YOUR BROWSER
Some tools remember small things in your browser’s local storage. It never leaves your device, and we cannot see it.
- MELTER — your view preferences; your twelve most recent pipelines (the steps, never the data you ran through them); and whether you have used +STEP, so its hint stops showing.
- DOPPLER — which stories you have seen, and when you last looked, so SINCE YOU LEFT knows what is new.
- BITOW — nothing.
- GATO — the random name the server gave you (with the server’s signature, so a reload keeps it), and whether you have said anything yet, so the chat field stops glowing. NEW NAME replaces the name.
To erase it all, clear your browser’s site data for noirapps.io.
WHAT EACH TOOL SENDS
- MELTER sends nothing. Your data is parsed and transformed inside the tab. Share links carry the pipeline, never your data, after the # — the part of a link browsers never send to a server.
- BITOW sends nothing. The QR code, link and embed are made on your device, and the address travels only after the #. The embed is self-contained: pages that use it make no requests to us.
- DOPPLER asks our server for new stories once a minute while it is open. Stories link to their publishers without telling them where you came from; once you are on their site, their policy applies.
- The home page asks our server for DOPPLER’s current top story.
- MCP and GATO work differently — see below.
DOPPLER’s server reads eight news outlets’ public feeds on its own schedule. No visitor information is part of that.
MCP
NOIR MCP works differently from the apps in your browser. When your AI assistant calls one of its tools, what it passes — text for MELTER, an address for BITOW — travels through your AI provider to our server.
- We handle each call in memory and forget it as soon as we answer. Tool inputs and outputs are never stored, and never logged.
- Our web server records the request like any visit: the address it came from (your AI provider’s, or yours if your client connects directly), the time, and POST /mcp — not what was in it.
- Your AI provider sees the whole conversation. Their privacy policy covers that part.
GATO
GATO is one cat for everyone, with a live chat, so it has to talk to our server. Here is all of it:
- Your name is random. The server makes it up, and accepts only names it made; we never ask who you are.
- What you say in the chat goes to everyone on the page, under that name. The server keeps the last hundred lines in memory — never longer than a day — and never writes them down or logs them. A restart erases them. Links, email addresses and phone numbers are refused.
- Showing up and talking feed the cat. To keep that fair — one person can feed it only so much an hour — and to limit how fast anyone can post, the server holds a scrambled form of your IP address (a keyed hash, with a key that changes every day) in memory, for an hour after your last request at most. It is never written down.
- The only thing written to disk is the cat itself: how fed it is, when it last ate, how many meals it has had, and when it was born. Nothing about anyone.
- Our web server records GATO’s requests like any visit — the address they came from, the time, and the address asked for — never what was said.
WHAT WE DON’T DO
No cookies, analytics, advertising or fingerprinting. No third-party scripts, fonts or embeds — every file on this site comes from noirapps.io. We don’t sell or share personal information, and we use it for nothing beyond running the site and answering mail.
WHERE IT LIVES
Our server is rented from Vultr and sits in New Jersey, USA. Vultr provides the machine and the network, and acts only as our host. If you visit from outside the United States, your requests are processed there.
LEGAL BASIS
For visitors in the EU and UK: we process server logs, email, MCP calls and GATO’s chat on the basis of legitimate interests — keeping the site secure and working, answering the people who write to us, answering the calls your assistant makes, and running the chat you join (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).
YOUR RIGHTS
You can ask what we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, stop using it or send you a copy. Write to nobody@noirapps.io. Our logs identify visits only by IP address, so tell us yours and roughly when you visited. We answer within 30 days.
In the EU or UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority. In California: we do not sell or share personal information, and using your rights will never cost you anything.
CHILDREN
The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
OTHER SITES
Links to news publishers, to X and anywhere else lead to sites we do not control. Their privacy policies apply there.
CHANGES
When this policy changes, this page changes first, with a new date at the top.
